Hi you allone,
we had the same question a couple of weeks ago and it turned out:
If you want to read barcodes (numbers or characters) you need a barcode scanner
which
is normally looped into the keyboard. So the input of the scanner is just like 
the 
corresponding keys where pushed on the keyboard. 
You do not need any special programming in Delphi to use those scanners
