Steve, I did not realize you were in the UK (all I had to do was look at your e-mail address).
I did a little looking around and did not find anything about sending directly to O2. I did locate a web service that supports e-mailing SMS messages to O2 cell phones: http://www.textmagic.co.uk/magicmessage/email_to_sms.php It appears they want money for this, but it may be a trivial cost. I'll let you investigate. I have been able to get, by googling, a comprehensive list of carriers in the form of e.g '[EMAIL PROTECTED]', but on going to O2's site it's not easy to find what the 'number' format should be. I tried mailing Tesco (UK's largest supermarket chain who collaborate with O2 to provide Tesco Mobile network) to get their sms info yesterday but haven't received a reply. While googling, I came across a forum in which a guy from the US asked how he could mail to UK mobiles and he quoted Verizon sms gateway address as an example of how it's done in the States - he got no reply! Are they conspiring against us here !! Regards Steve
