If you are using client/server I recommend mysql. I have a database with at least 7,000,000 (seven million) records in one table; and another 2,000,000 million records in another; each table increasing currently by about 4000, or 5000 records every day and will increase by more and more as time goes by with twice as much inserts and updates and it works perfectly been running for 2 years now. used by about 700 users simultaneously.
