On this subject again, and regarding the use of the OS Product ID
string such as this, which is my own from a Vista Ultimate upgrade
installation,
89580-006-5738705-71882
Or the use of some hardware serial numbers as a base that can be
read by a Registration process, get sent back to the Application vendor,
encrypted along with the owners personal info and returned as a lic file
that can then be checked for validity when ever the application is run,
would result in the same difficulties for both methods, provided of course
that the Product ID is indeed unique to each installation of the same OS and
version as Microsoft techs told me via their newsgroups a few years back.
It seems most personal computer users almost never upgrade their OS
let alone update them, instead replacing the computer itself and getting the
newest OEM version of the OS every three to five years. Business users, at
least most of those I've done work for, wait sometimes as long as seven or
eight years before changing the OS, and are more likely to change the
hardware alone!
So providing that the strings used are always unique to a particular
computer/OS combination, either method is probably as good as the other.
The problem I have is that I've been given a lot of miss-information
from the Microsoft newsgroups over the years, and don't have any way of
checking if indeed the Product ID is unique! So if anyone is able to make a
comparison to more than one or two separately licensed Microsoft OS's of the
same versions, I would appreciate knowing the answer to this question. I
don't require anyone's Product ID's, just a Yes or No from anyone who can
make such a comparison! You can also make a comparison against mine above.
Thanx in advance!

"...There no longer exists any communities...only special Interests." as
remarked by one Photojournalist and Writer in relation to the infamous
'Mapplethorp trial' of Cinncinate. I'm happy to know why this is true and
the protection it provides everyone from 1st amendment rights
violations...escpecially those in L.A. and Seattle!
As for New York, it's difficult to get worked up over a conglomerate of
special interests such as it represents, when opposition to every one and
every thing not their own has become its most apparent trait and appalling
attribute!
