Hi Robert,

My guess, since it does work after the driver is reinstalled, is that it's
software, not hardware. A test would be to remove the Ethernet card from
the box, and install it into a box that's running a different operating
system (e.g. XP or Linux) and see if it runs there. If so, it's most
likely one of:

a) the driver software needs updating.

b) the card's firmware needs updating.

c) there's an interaction between the driver and a 3rd-party piece of
Internet software, e.g. a 3rd-party firewall.

d) there's an interaction between the driver and Vista.

You might also want to look at the Nvidia forums (forums.nvidia.com), there
seem to be several people who have similar problems.

Network problems seem to be some of the screwiest ones to track down and
fix. In the end, rather than mucking around with drivers and firmware and
other delights, it might be faster/easier to get a new (non-Nvidia)
Ethernet card, especially if you can get one on the cheap (Amazon has
several ranging from $11 to $25), or swap cards from an old PC you have
hanging around.

Good luck!

Morning all,

This may be slightly off topic but I've not been able to solve it
elsewhere so I thought I'd ask. Besides, it prevents me from getting my
Delphi-list email as well!

For some reason, and I remember that it began after updating Vista, my
internet connection via my ethernet card is failing when I first boot up!
Sometimes I can go into the device manager and disable and then re-enable
the driver and that fixes it, but other times I have to uninstall it, then
re-start the system which re-installs it and fixes it. I can't just do a
hardware scan and re-install the driver that way.

I've found three different drivers for the card on my system, all of
which I tried, and I also downloaded a new set from Nvidia, but they all
seem to work the same...intermittentantly!

Do you think this is actually a problem with the card, or could
something...such as a security update from Microsoft...be causing this?
