As far as I understand, the sound card selection only affect the
application using the mixer component. In no way it changes the default
sound card that _other_ applications are using.

I am guessing that this is in the registry. Assuming that each application
checks for and loads the "system" default sound card, then there should be
only one entry to find, however, if each application stores its own default
card, then there should be a setting for each application.
Search the registry for sound and the names/ids of your sound cards.
