There's not a clear definition of the two options on the JIRA page, but the way I read it is that when you choose 'don't grant' on the JIRA attachment page, you are not licensing your code to Apache under the ASL and therefore it cannot be checked into Subversion or be redistributed as part of an official Apache project. I don't see it as precluding collaborative work on any code, but any contributions you make to the other person's code are covered by the copyright on the original code, which has not been licensed to you. Which means at the end of the day, the person could take your suggestions and go home without licensing the final product to Apache, an unlikely but unfortunately possible outcome. So, thinking about it, marking it as 'licensed to the ASF' is certainly a better option for anyone who genuinely wants to contribute the code to the project when they are done. andrew
