Bryan Pendleton commented on DERBY-6791:
----------------------------------------

Hi Abhinav,

I think it is time for you to start working on your GSoC application at the
Google
web site. You can find a lot of information there, for example at this link:
http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/document/show/gsoc_program/google/gsoc2015/help_page#5._What_should_a_student_proposal_look

In your proposal, you should refer to this issue as the primary issue that
you will be working on. You should also refer to DERBY-6773, since we
are actively working on that, and I think you should also select several
other Derby bugs that you propose to work on. Perhaps DERBY-5852 or
DERBY-5534 or DERBY-5944 might be good ones to look at, but you
should look through the Derby JIRA issue tracker to identify some
particular issues that are of interest to you to develop and extend your
own knowledge of Derby.

I believe that when you place a draft proposal on the Google web site, you
will be arrange for me to view it and I can make further comments at
that time. It is best to get an early start on this process so that we can
make sure we have all the necessary paperwork complete in time.

> For the 2015 Google Summer of Code, I am offering to mentor a
> student for general bug fixing of the Derby database.
> The Derby JIRA has collected the community's knowledge about
> known bugs in Derby, and there are plenty of bugs for us to work on.
> If you take on this project, with assistance from me, you'll:
> - select Derby issues from the Derby issue to fix
> - reproduce those problems by writing and running tests
> - develop patches to address the problems
> - work with the community to get the patches reviewed
> - have your reviewed and accepted contributions committed to the next Derby
> release.
