I looked at this & I now understand why it's not just the Sun style. The Sun style contains this "The exact construction of the indentation (spaces vs. tabs) is unspecified. Tabs must be set exactly every 8 spaces (not 4).", so I assume the addition is to specify the indentation. Of course there's one section of the Sun standard I dislike and think works against the power of the Java language, possibly leading to bugs, but to raise it would be a bikeshed discussion. :-) Dan.
