I'm starting a separate discussion thread for any questions, since I've had two so far.
The tests Manjula is contributing were originally developed for Cloudscape before IBM contributed code to Apache for the Derby project, not as a part of the Derby project, so we need to follow the code contribution process outlined at : http://incubator.apache.org/ip-clearance/index.html some good verbiage includes: "The intent is to simply help to ensure, and record, that due diligence (Software Grant, CLA, Corp CLA, license and dependencies) has been paid to the incoming code, so that it can be merged into an existing project/module. These legal documents are available on the ASF Licenses page. The receiving PMC is responsible for doing the work. The Incubator is simply the repository of the needed information. Once a PMC directly checks-in a filled-out short form, the Incubator PMC will need to approve the paper work after which point the receiving PMC is free to import the code. Note that only lazy concensus is required. The IP clearance template contains more details of this process." I'll handle the paperwork and notifying the Incubator. Before I can do that (and before the code can be committed), the PMC must vote to accept the code contribution. If that passes, I'll then notify the Incubator. After everything has been cleared, the project can do whatever it wants with it: commit it all or in part, modify it, reorganize it, whatever. The vote itself should be called on the public list (hence, derby-dev), and doing so helps keep all contributors aware of the process. Please feel free to post any questions to this thread (i.e., outside the main VOTE thread). I'll be gone much of this afternoon, but will be back online later. -jean Jean T.
