I have created a new Maven distribution called 10.5.3.0_1 and staged it at
http://people.apache.org/~rhillegas/repository/org/apache/derby/ This
distribution contains the Derby 10.5.3.0 jars plus better poms. Please
test-drive this distribution. If users think that it's a good Maven packaging
of Derby artifacts, then I can copy it to the ibiblio directory tree so that it
will be sync'd to the Maven 2 repository.

commentary on derby-4390.
