This is just my $.02 since I don't know anything about how this pom is used.
I think that what you have right now is at least internally consistent. The
source code url agrees with the <derby.version> element lower down, whose
contents are "trunk-alpha". If you change one, then I think that you should
change the other.
Most of the information in this pom is project-wide. That is, it's true
regardless of the version of Derby you're seeking. For that reason too I think
that the <scm> and <derby.version> elements look good.
