I got plone.jsonapi.routes running with Plone 5.0.3 and created an instance on my TDF-VM. It's up and running at http://vm141.documentfoundation.org:9201/liboexttempsite/ now. It's possible to create a search within the site using the URL: http://vm141.documentfoundation.org:9201/liboexttempsite/@@API/plone/api/1.0/search. But you'll need permissions to do so.
