Oh one more thing. 
I tried the all_generic_ide=1  Made no difference
Tried pollirq  Made no difference
I also switched from 40pin to 80pin cable.  Made no difference.

This drive was used to install Hardy on this system from the Hardy CD-ROM.
This system had Gutsy on it and it was backed up to DVD burned by this drive
on this system then wiped and installed a fresh installation of Hardy with this 
drive.  
In Hardy it will only mount data and music CD-ROMS.  No dvd media data or movies
can be mounted on this system since Hardy was installed.
