Now waiting for an actual crash. It happens so randomly with me it may
be a while. If you want to help here are the steps I have taken so far:

Added to /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid main universe

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libc6-dbgsym libglib2.0-0-dbgsym gvfs-dbgsym
gvfs-backends-dbgsym libgvfscommon0-dbgsym

then create script as per:
#!/bin/sh

G_SLICE=always-malloc G_DEBUG=gc-friendly  valgrind -v --tool=memcheck
--leak-check=full --num-callers=40 --log-file=/tmp/valgrind.log
/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-trash-debug
