Ah, You only have a single panel. A second panel would have used to have gone in the middle of the two screens. Yes, your case would be worse with this patch. This patch is a trade-off though, so there will be some. With xrandr 1.3 it will be possible to make the behaviour configurable, but that's not an option for Jaunty.
