Issuing: xrandr --output LVDS1 --set BACKLIGHT combination
doesn't seem to do anything at all. The BACKLIGHT values are listed as (0,8), and I can set the backlight by running xrandr --output LVDS1 --set BACKLIGHT 5 or something, but neither of these commands stops the flickering. So far, the only thing that stops this loop is either (a) killing gnome- power-manager, or (b) clicking on a drop-down menu and holding the mouse button for around 5 seconds.
