Hm

I'm afraid I'm probably not as helpful here...

Well, for starters, I don't know if, by "at other times" you mean *any*
other occurrences -- in which case, I do remember the having this once
before, but I can't remember the exact circumstances. ): I've had a few
other oddities though:
I use a DVD+RW to watch avi content on a divx/xvid-capable dvd player in my
living room, so my habit is to start a new compilation, select burn, and
select "erase this disc" from the warning which pops up about the disc not
having enough space on it for my compilation. I've had the burn process just
halt there before (after "erasing", before starting data write), not
advancing, but I don't know if that's related because cancelling and
restarting the burn worked out OK. Also, this isn't the same "no disc"
behaviour, so probably not related...
I've also had the case where brasero hangs on a burn or refuses to see the
disc if it's mounted (and nautilus is auto-mounting as I insert) -- but
again, this isn't the same issue (and isn't reliably reproducible).
Also, I've noticed that the erase via this process is almost instantaneous
-- it used to take a couple of seconds (and, in fact, just blanking a disc,
without writing, does take a couple of seconds). The write does complete
though, so I'm assuming someone figured out a quicker method (such as just
ignore the discs contents and write over it forcibly or similar)

On the other hand, if you mean "does this happen when I blank other media,
such as CD-RW", I don't know -- the last time I blanked a CD-RW on my
machine was a very long time ago. I know I have one *somewhere* -- but not
100% sure where...

Sorry to not really be of much assistance ):

There is no shame in not knowing; the shame is in not finding out.
