@madbiologist: Okey, installed and ran dist: "Origin: Ubuntu; Label:
Ubuntu; Suite: maverick; Version: 10.10; Codename: maverick; Date: Tue,
31 Aug 2010 5:22:37 UTC; Architectures: i386; Components: main
restricted; Description: Ubuntu Maverick 10.10." In short: No change,
identical problem in Ubuntu 10.10 as 9.10 and 10.04. What happened
between 9.04 and 9.10, regarding gstreamer?

On topic: Totem is a no-go at the moment. Asks for already installed
gstreamer codecs -- ffmpeg et cetera -- and then freezes. Process kill,
only option in Totem. Then installed Miro through Synaptics, works or
should I say performs exactly as previously reported: 'CNET Buzz Report
HD at dimension 1280 x 720; codec H.264 / AVC; 24 frames per second,
bitrate N/A. Using MPEG-4 AAC audio at 44100 Hz, bitrate N/A, works
without a hitch, while Geek Brief HD at dimension 1280 x 720; codec
H.264 / AVC; 24 frames per second, bitrate N/A. Using MPEG-4 AAC audio
*but a higher* 48000 Hz at a bitrate of 119 kbps really, really
doesn't.'

Off topic -- for my own PM: I still have to install my own xorg.conf to
override a Xserver crash, when using an added NVIDIA-card towards a
secondary display on a Fujistu Siemens (FSC) computer -- and nope Ubuntu
doesn't do well at start-up, changing from default FSC-BIOS settings.
Further-more, I understand it, but I don't like it; when Alpha-
Ubuntu-10.10 overrides my main grub and then hides menu.lst in a novel
grub.conf.

Finally, I'm keeping the Ubuntu-alpha running, some interesting
novelties in Meerkat. :)
