I, too, had a weather indicator on the panel (that one which comes  with
the clock) which I cannot make working again in Natty with GNOME2
(Compiz), although I can see the weather information below the time zone
map when the clock is expanded - don't know if this is related, though.

I oppose calling this uncritical, because this affects Skype which I
need to use every day and once you close its window there is no way to
get it back (except for the "killall notification-area-applet" work-
around) while Skype's process is still running. I did not find any
setting in Skype that would tell it to terminate once I close its
window. Gnome-panel may be obsolete, but there are still applications
which depend on it.
