Reproduced on additional hardware, noble 2:21.1.12-1ubuntu1.8 still fails here: - ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 GA605WI, Linux Mint 22.3 (noble base) - 65:00.0 class 0380 AMD Radeon 890M (panel attached); 64:00.0 class 0300 - RTX 4070 Max-Q (HDMI attached)
lspci -nnk output attached. Repro: on 1ubuntu1.5 the automatic hybrid GPU setup works. After upgrading to 1ubuntu1.7 or 1ubuntu1.8 and rebooting: no session, LightDM crash-loop, "modeset(G0): Failed to create pixmap". Same result with NVIDIA 610.57.04 and 615.71.09, so not driver-specific. Reverting only the four xserver packages to 1ubuntu1.5 (noble-security) restores the automatic setup, so the regression is in the xserver change on this machine. An explicit xorg.conf.d layout (AMD as screen device, NVIDIA as GPUDevice) boots, but apps misrender on it (OpenGL games show a black window, Discord hangs on webcam start, and other similar artefacts), so it is not a full substitute on this hardware either. Noble 1ubuntu1.8 (mentioned in comment #37) was tested on 2026-09-27 and does not cover this case. The resolute 21.1.22-1ubuntu1.2 update looks relevant: could it be backported to noble?
