It seems that Solaris 10 offers at least four calendar programs. The
CDE calendar program (itself a successor to an similar program) has
provided excellent service since the early '90s but apparently CDE is
now deprecated. The other calendar programs I am aware of are

o Evolution (included component along with email)
o Thunderbird (included component along with email)
   o Sun Java Calendar (stand-alone)

Of these, I have only looked at Sun Java Calendar (looks nice!) since
the idea of using a calendar associated with a mail program I don't
use is not very appealing. There is also the issue that the calendar
service should be available all the time (not just when a GUI happens
to be running) so that it can deliver event notifications via other
means (e.g. via email).

Based on this, I have a few questions:

   1) Is there a document somewhere which describes the
      Solaris/OpenSolaris objectives for calendars?

   2) Does Sun or OpenSolaris recommend/support one of the calendar
      programs more than the others?

   3) Is there a mechanism to import existing calendar definitions from
      the CDE calendar server/format?

   4) Which calendar interface has proven to be the most effective and
      reliable (besides CDE Calendar)?

Thanks,

Bob
