The call for papers for FISL, the International Free Software
Meeting, in Porto Alegre, Brasil is open. This is the 10th event, and
they are planning a special event to cheer the date.
In the last few years, OpenSolaris has been very well received at the
event, and last year the Porto Alegre OpenSolaris User Group did a
great 1 day, OpenSolaris-focused pre-event a day before FISL started.
This year, there is plans for more of that!
So, if you're interested, please submit your OpenSolaris talk at:
https://fisl.softwarelivre.org/10/papers/speaker/
Important dates:
26/april - CFP submission deadline
25/may - Accepted talks get notified
31/may - Speaker confirmation deadline
24-27/june - FISL 10
To help you, here are a few points from previous years:
- please add a good description of who you are. Some speakers did add
their curriculum to the talk description and not to the Personal Info
page in past years, and got their
talk rejected, because it was not obvious who they were. Be clear who
you are, and why you're an
important speaker for that talk. The site interface may not be
obvious: you have
to add your speaker information (including bio) on the tab "Personal
Info" (link on the top of the papers page).
- choose your track carefully! FISL has different evaluators for each
track, so, talks submitted to the wrong track usually end up rejected,
since it rarely gets reposted to
another track! In the past dozens of good talks were considered off-
topic, because they were submitted to the wrong track.
- FISL is a strong, focused open source event. The link to open source
must be really clear. Just because you _used_ OpenSolaris, MySQL or
even Linux on your project, it does not follow that your project
qualifies. We can help you focusing your talk to the FISL audience, so
fell free to contact me if you want some comments to your submission;
- Last but not least, FISL is a wonderful, multicultural,
international event. It is fun, noisy, and attended by great
developers from across the globe. The discussions run from technical
to open source ethics to law, music, arts. If you can, come a couple
of days earlier to join the OpenSolaris OSUG event. If you can, stay a
day later to enjoy beautiful Porto Alegre, or even take a few days
vacation in the south of Brazil for a special time!
