There are no issues with current Quadro cards delivered with Sun workstations
and OpenSolaris, though GeForce 9000 series are not supported out of the box
and should use the 180 beta driver for now from nvidia.com. On clean install
of 2008.11 (Stable, RC2, B99) my 9800 GT (XFX brand) was not supported. I'd
recommend adding a comment to the RFE (Request for enhancement) if you have a
newer card than an 8800. Without acceleration, tearing occurs, and painting
windows can be very slow, putting strain on the CPU to do the render operation.
To see if your card is using the NVIDIA driver, simply navigate to the System
-> Preferences menu in GNOME and open NVIDIA X Server Settings. Their program
will tell if you're not using their driver. Another way is to use 'glxinfo'
and 'glxgears' from the command-line, or an OpenGL accelerated screensaver
installed via ips.
