Note that I have been working with the OSS team to fix this bug. This
bug is a bit tricky to fix properly since it is a little unclear who
should own the issue. Also, the fact that we are in the middle of
migrating from SunAudio (SADA) interfaces to OSS-based ones makes things
a little complicated as well.

While it is tempting to classify this as a GNOME bug, we probably do not
want a fix that only works for users using GNOME desktops. What about KDE
users, when KDE integrates, for example?

In talking with the OSS team, they agreed to provide a low-level ON
interface that can basically save-to-file or load-from-file settings
for a given audio device. Once this is added, then it will be more
straightforward for any desktop (such as GNOME) to load/save audio
settings on login/logout. We felt splitting up the fix this way
makes more sense since the internals of how to load/save audio state
would be owned by the team who understands this stuff best, the OSS
team (rather than the GNOME team). The GNOME team would just be
responsible for calling their load/save function at the right times.

Having said all that, I do not think OSS will integrate in time for
the 09.04 release, so this fix will likely be in a future OpenSolaris
release, unfortunately.
