thanks for the reply. doesn't seem to work for me.

i typed this in a terminal window as myself:
$ gconftool-2 -s /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk-im-status-style -t string none

nothing happened. quitting terminal & opening a new terminal window still had
the input status window.

so i tried as root:
# gconftool-2 -s /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk-im-status-style -t string none

nothing happened. same as before. still have the label.

the FAQ also mentioned a gui method:
"If you prefer to use the GUI, then click on the "This Computer" icon on
your JDS desktop and select: Preferences ? Desktop Preferences ? Input Methods
to start gnome-im-properties. From here, uncheck the Language Status Window and
apply the change."

unfortunately the "This Computer" is called "Computer", and there's no
"Preferences ? Desktop Preferences ? Input Methods" menu i can see...

i should have mentioned before that this is Solaris nevada build 54 (SXCR) on
x86.

is there something i've missed? or other suggestions?
