Hi Karle,
I'm 100% sure - I'm maintaining Sun internal repository providing Wine
IPS packages for each Wine release since 1.1.3.

I've built Wine 1.1.14 the day after it was release on OpenSolaris
2008.11 upgraded to latest development packages (snv_105 to date). I
didn't run into the problem You've described above.

Wine in Opensolaris requires either esound (/usr/lib/esd) enabled or oss 
installed at compile time, or both technologies enabled.

I'm using OSS and it does have impact only on gnome-volume-control. When
I set up esound (run /usr/lib/esd and setup gnome-sound-properties 
accordingly) and log-in again, everything works including gnome apps.
