Even Solaris 10 comes with ImageMagick which supports capturing the 
full screen or individual windows:

   import -window root root.png

But of course I would prefer to promote that Solaris/OpenSolaris adopt 
GraphicsMagick, which is a stabilized (and faster) fork of ImageMagick 
which I maintain.  See "http://www.GraphicsMagick.org/";.
