Please make sure that the method used does uncover these "minor" bugs so they get fixed. Assertions are rarely minor. Beta releases used by hardly anyone are unlikely to uncover many bugs. Solaris 10U4 is riddled with these "minor" bugs which cause many programs to fail. There is nothing more effective at uncovering these bugs so they can be fixed than 1000 brave OpenSolaris users. Perhaps a LD_PRELOAD scheme can be used to replace abort() with a less objectionable reporting function if users need the broken applications to keep running.
