The ARC case:

attempts to deal with this by handling the case where if MANPATH is not set, it
will derive the location of the manpage for a command from where it was found in
your PATH.
Does this resolve you problem? Unfortunately I don't know if this has been
integrated yet, but I've CC-ed the case submitter to see if he would know...
