Thanks for the quick response.  No, MANPATH is a secondary problem.
The primary one is that several directories are missing from the
default PATH.  If somebody types `gcc hello.c' or `cc hello.c' and
gets the response `ksh: gcc: not found', his first response is to go
looking for a copy of gcc to install.  This is in spite of the fact
that a perfectly good compiler is already installed in
/usr/sfw/bin/gcc or /opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc.  It's compounded by the fact
that a great deal of Solaris information on the web states that a
whole bunch of software must be installed on Solaris to make it
usable.  This isn't true in the case of Solaris 10 and Opensolaris,
but the old information still persists.
