Note that the opinion for the case which you reference as [4] (which I
wrote... derailed cases don't really have single authors..)  set a
precedent that non-conflicting functionality present in /usr/xpgN/bin
variants of commands should be present in default command variants found
in /usr/bin/.  (which reminds me, that opinion should be published via
opensolaris.org).

I'm not sure this necessarily extends to the GNU command set.
