Hello,

I've been following this thread from some time and I would just like
to clarify the following:

1. What is the key difference between /usr/sfw, /usr/gnu, and the Companion CD?

>From what I understand:

/usr/sfw: A mistake, and now everything that is stable should be moved into /usr

/usr/gnu: All the GNU build tools + any other stuff to make OSS build
out of the box? (and satisfy their broken build scripts/Makefiles)

Companion (and its subsequent successor/form): *unsupported* open
source software.

Could someone in the know confirm that this is the case?

2. Given the considerable overlap between all 3, how and what kind of
community development effort are we going to adopt?

3. What kind of criteria determines which location/consoliation a
software package is allocated to?

It would be nice to have a draft of a semi-official document to
explain the above. I'm..confused. As are many others I believe.

Thanks. :)
