I'm curious about these answers as well.

Within Sun we use the Sun Ray thin client (http://www.sun.com/sunray) to
access groups of TS servers. Although the plan for rolling out
OpenSolaris hasn't been fully deployed yet, they are Solaris machines
serving Gnome desktops.

At the moment, our Broomfield campus has 879 users in a group of 51
servers (not all are running at the moment). The most loaded server I
see has 43 desktop sessions.

The OpenSolaris 111a server I'm on has 12 Gnome desktop sessions at the
moment (although only 4 are actively in use right now), and feels fine.
That number will go up once we announce the server's availability more
widely (next week when we add another OpenSolaris server into the group).
