You got it! Before I saw this message, I thought it might refer to that
other `xv'. So, I disabled the visualization plugin and finally got audio.
Then I ran gstreamer-properties (a new one on me) and saw that it showed
X11/Xshm/Xv for video. The test button gave me an error. When I tried
either Autodetect or No Xv, the test button worked. I left it at No Xv and
re-enabled the plugin in rhythmbox. With that, the audio still worked
correctly, and so did visualization. So, that was the problem.

This particular computer has the ATI chipset. I understand that ATI video
is not well supported under Solaris. I did a fresh install of snv_117 to see
if it was improved. Gstreamer's video setting was incorrect by default.

I have another similar computer that has the Nvidia chipset. Rhythmbox
doesn't have that problem on this one. It's also running snv_117. The
video setting is also X11/Xshm/Xv. It must support the Xv extension.
