Are you using dtlogin or GDM as your login screen? Note that each login program has different configuration to add the session to the menu. GDM simply uses a desktop file in /usr/share/xsessions. However, adding a new menu item to CDE login (e.g. dtlogin) is more work. If the LXDE packages only install the GDM desktop file, you may need to switch to GDM to see the menu option.
