With Debian Etch installed in VirtualBox and the VirtualBox local
extensions installed in the Linux kernel I noticed that the VirtualBox
local mounts had severe problems (wrong mount point ownership and 'ls'
of mount point crashes the session) so now I use a NFS mount to the
local host and that works great. CIFS should work fine too.

My several days experience with VirtualBox is under Solaris 10U5 with
all recommended patches installed.
