It seems that many of the images are in PNG format.  Given this, it is 
worth investigating to see if these PNG files may be optimized for 
smaller size using 'pngcrush' or a similar tool.  I picked a file at 
random from the themes provided with Solaris 10 and found that 
'pngcrush' was able to optimize it to a smaller size, indicating that 
these images are not yet optimized for size.

PNG is a very flexible format offering many ways to store the same 
image.

Wasted space by the filesystem when storing tiny files may hinder 
optimization efforts.
