Hello, My Opensolaris 2009.06 system takes about 2 minutes to get from grub to GDM login screen, and then another 30 seconds to get to a mostly-finished-loading GNOME session. To me this seems slow.
The only things I can think of that this machine runs on top of the standard install of OpenSolaris, are MySQL and Apache servers. The machine itself is an AMD 64 2800+ with 2GB RAM. Anyone with similar specs having a significantly better startup time? I did a bit of digging to find out what might be going on, and found these instructions for getting a bootchart using DTrace probes: http://alexeremin.blogspot.com/2009/01/boot-chart-with-help-of-dtrace-and.html The resulting bootchart can be found here: http://www.mattste.co.uk/images/bootchart.png (Warning, this is a large file - 1.5MB) To me there's not anything that immediately looks concerning, I can't see anything that looks like it hangs for a long time and holds everything else up, so should this be considered a normal startup time? I've also attached the list of services that are running - do I need all these for a desktop machine running an AMP server? Thanks, Matt -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
