On Solaris 10 I do this by making a softlink in the plugins directory.

For Solaris 10 x86 it looks like this:

chekov% pwd
/opt/apps/firefox-3.5.4_sol10-i386/plugins
chekov% ls -l libjavaplugin_oji.so
lrwxrwxrwx   1 randy    engrng        50 Oct 29 01:35 libjavaplugin_oji.so ->
/usr/java/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
chekov%

And for Solaris 10 sparc it looks like this:
chekov% pwd
/opt/apps/firefox-3.5.4_sol10-sparc/plugins
chekov% ls -l libjavaplugin_oji.so
lrwxrwxrwx   1 randy    engrng        51 Oct 29 01:35 libjavaplugin_oji.so ->
/usr/java/jre/plugin/sparc/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
chekov%
