I am not new to linux. I have had a lot of difficulty setting up ppp
in foresight. Several other distros work well at least with regards to
ppp. I have an external multitech modem that is recognized located at
/dev/ttyS0 (I 've tried every combination of permissions possible on
that file) In foresight 0.9.4.pre.1 as well as 0.9.3 I cannot get a
connection to/thru my isp. I have set up wvdial using the wvdialconf
command. I've edited the wvdial.conf that's created by that command to
include phone#, username, and password. As root I can dial out but do
not get a connection. Firefox browser just states it can't find the
server. I've looked at and disabled firewall. More importantly I've
tried changing permissions on everything in /etc/ppp and checked the
permissions on /usr/sbin/wvdial and /usr/sbin/pppd.
After all that I still get:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ wvdial copper.net
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0
--> Cannot open /dev/ttyS0: Device or resource busy
--> Cannot open /dev/ttyS0: Device or resource busy
--> Cannot open /dev/ttyS0: Device or resource busy

I also found that in the 0.9.4pre release network-admin crashes when
trying to save settings (see below)

"The Application network-admin has quit unexpectedly"

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ network-admin

** CRITICAL **: gst_xml_element_destroy: assertion `node != NULL' failed
aborting...
Killed
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$

If anyone has help on this I'm grateful because I'm at a dead end.
