Same is happening to me, went from 10.04 to 12.04. I did a little bit of testing and I could single out the instance when this happens:
1) Open Nautilus, set view as list. 2) Without previously selecting any item, right click on any item's line but NOT over the file/document's name. 3) The item does not get selected, and the right click menu appears as if you clicked on a blank space, not recognizing the item's right click menu (ie Open With, etc) If you right click over the name of the file/folder, then the item gets selected and menu shows up. This is why it seemed random to me until I figured out the behavior, and makes it an annoying bug for folders containing items with short names. Hope this can be replicated/fixed soon! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995932 Title: right click on file name in nautilus brings up wrong menu Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When i right click on a file name in nautilus, the context menu containing e.g. "rename" should pop up. However, "sometimes" (and more often in the "lower part" of the file list) the right click un-selects the file (or doesn't select it in case it's not yet selected) and the "Create new folder" context menu appears. I run an upgraded 64bit ubuntu (from 11.10) on a 64bit machine.
