I'd love to test but it's even more broken now - I connect the phone to
the computer, but "new mobile broadband connection" does not show up
anymore - so it seems I can't use this feature anymore.

I certainly don't agree with your invalidation of the report, because
that does not mean the problem isn't there anymore.
