status inprogress What's happening here is libsane being a terrible, terrible library.
colord-sane polls for new scanners (because libsane is terrible, and doesn't generate an event when a new scanner is available), and libsane (because it is terrible) leaks a file descriptor each time it is polled. Eventually, we run out of file descriptors and colord-sane crashes. Fortunately all this does is prevent new scanners from being detected for colour management purposes. Annoyingly, it also pops up a crash dialog. I know how to fix it, and am doing so. ** Changed in: colord (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to colord in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1027139 Title: colord-sane assert failure: *** buffer overflow detected ***: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/colord/colord-sane terminated Status in “colord” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in “colord” source package in Quantal: In Progress Bug description: Unknown.
