I accessed an external hard drive when moving my files back after
installing ubuntu 13:10 - (downloaded the daily 13.04 64-bit dated 25
aug 2013) everything copied quickly and all went well until I attempted
to safely remove the drive - it kept re-mounting the external - I am
going to reboot in order to get the drive out of the USB access point
without damage...
