thanks Chris -- though the reason I think it's the same bug is that the solution is the same, ie go back to gnome desktop. I've now tested it and it works pretty well on gnome.
(Actually, I still saw the sudden leap to x=0 or y=0 once or twice in hundreds of test strokes -- it must be some kind of race condition) (I just get the impression that Unity is nowhere near ready to use for the mainstream. I don't think any of the features are particularly helpful, and there are so many things that seem harder to do. As you say, eventually things will be sorted out. Meanwhile, I just want to get on with using the computer to create stuff...!) cheers Andrew -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/786317 Title: wacom intuous3 often fails to draw stroke (release click not recognised?) Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: gimp It appears that sometimes when the pen is lifted a "button up" command is somehow not sent to gimp. This is new in Natty (it all worked beautifully in Maverick) gimp 2.6.11, ubuntu natty Wacom intuous3 6x8 To reproduce: make sure you have selected wacom as extended input device. Press "P" to paint. Make a stroke. Very often (but not always) at the end of the stroke when the pen is lifted the paint cursor remains at the end of the stroke and does not follow the pointer. It's necessary to click again (anywhere, or with any button) to get the cursor following the pointer again before you can draw another stroke. This makes gimp unusable.
