meanwhile, I don't know the difference between "gnome" "gnome shell" "ubuntu classic" "unity" "compiz" "metacity" -- some of them are window managers, some are something else. It's confusing and I haven't seen anything that clearly explains what is what or the official way to choose between them in ubuntu. Make a stroke. Very often (but not always) at the end of the stroke when the pen is lifted the paint cursor remains at the end of the stroke and does not follow the pointer. It's necessary to click again (anywhere, or with any button) to get the cursor following the pointer again before you can draw another stroke. This makes gimp unusable.
