If you select different remotes in the configuration options of LIRC it will then get past "Installing Modules" and complete the install of LIRC but obviously the remote in question does not work as its the wrong remote type. This leads me to the conclusion that it is only the "Windows Media Center Transceivers /Remotes all" option that is causing LIRC to fail its final configuration.
