Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: This machine (Thinkpad T520) is connected to a Lenovo Advanced Mini Dock Series 3 (?), marked "type 4337". The dock has a DisplayPort output which can carry audio, but the audio sounds very badly clipped/overdriven no matter what I do with the mixers. PulseAudio's volume setting does adjust the volume, but does not affect the quality. The mixers in alsamixer -D hw:PCH do *not* affect the volume on this output at all. The first speaker test played on the laptop's speakers and sounded fine. The second test played over HDMI and was distorted. I'm aware this may just be bad hardware design and not fixable in software. :-) See also bug 1000734 for a less severe problem with a 3.5mm output on the same dock: background crackle.
