TL;DR we have timers in the statusbar, homescreen and lockscreen that
keep firing and updating the clocks even when the screen is turned off
(or the relevant clock is not visible). Under certain conditions these
timers can also leak effectively causing a significant CPU usage spike
every minute and getting worse over time.
I would have loved to land this last Monday but I was on badly needed
PTO so I really didn't have the time to finish the patch. I'm back now
so it will be ready soon; I expect fixing this issue may have a
measurable impact on battery-life especially when the phone is idle.
